Both iPhones I have had ended up with dead, unable to charge batteries at just about the 24 month mark (like clockwork), yet my nearing two and a half year old I tried the previous posters directions and it worked!!!! I've tried NEW chargers AND lightening cables, I've cleaned the charging port with a toothpick, and cleaned the end of the charger with vinegar. this may clear up some of the charging issues.

They could make a better product. iPhones are designed to be compatible with chargers from 500mA to the 2.1A iPad charger. this will bring up the apple icon, do a soft reset. So if you're struggling with this just let it die when it's convenient (or not).
