Afterwards I plugged the adaptor/plug back in to the socket and it started working again. Almost fell in hopelessness already. I was skeptical about this at first but then I cut to the chase, grabbed my hair dryer and TADA! Thank you for the simple yet effective advice!

Yeah, that's not the power button you've marked with the red rectangle in the figure that goes with "3: Reset the SMC". Never noticed this sofar, but now the green lite is not liting. I'm sure they would have tried to sell me an expensive replacement adapter. so i decide to open the MBP, take a brush n clean the part around Power pin and other part.. Macbook Pro Not Charging Look closely at both the adapter cord itself, and on the port at the side of the MacBook Pro / Air. I'm at a hostel literally half a world away from home, and I'm not sure I'd find an "old style" (Late 2011 MBP) charger. Thank you so much!

Worked perfectly!
To clean the MagSafe connector and pin area, disconnect the adapter from the wall outlet and from the computer.Remove debris gently with a cotton swab or a soft bristle toothbrush. Under continued use the cable may discolor and the rubber molding may become deformed. Think perhaps unplugging and leaving it idle. It's actually a removable hidden plug, probably so the wall outlet type can be easily changed for different countries.
