If your device has removable batteries, remove the batteries and reinstall them. The instruction worked perfectly with my wireless keyboard. I didn't have any issue with the wired Mac KB until I used the USB port on the KB. I ended up zapping the PRAM and it worked again until today when it inexplicably died again. I *think* (note emphasis!) that it has to do with how Lion (and its predecessor) move into hibernation mode. You need to check System Preferences > Keyboard > Input Sources are correct for your locale. https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204621

Restarted too. You'll see a graphical representation of your keyboard that highlights the corresponding keys you press on your keyboard. This works!
I've read that reinstalling the OS might fix it but I had a CD in the drive when this started and I can't get it out. Imac Wired Keyboard Not Working None helped [especially the ones that were over my head :)]. It started looking for a BT keyboard… couldn't find anything. Since I can't use mouse or anything I have to unplug computer and then everything works fine again.

Then I put the USB extension cable between the keyboard and the hub, and it started working perfectly! I used a standard USB connection and certain keys aren't functioning I have an extra apple keyboard. Ànd, I connected the spare one and it won't work at all.
