i have no idea what your problem may be. Since this is what we purchase them to do I know it can be quite frustating as I have dealt with it before. First place the end with the suction in the tank than make a clear path with the tube out of the tank. WOW this is unbelievable.

To get your siphon started, you will need to get water into the siphon tube. It just made a mess of the aquarium though-- threw waste and food everywhere and made the water cloudy. I tried doing it again...and there was zero suction going on.
